Nigeria Vs Iran: FIFA Rates Mikel As Man Of The Match
Nigeria midfielder, John Mikel Obi was awarded the Man of the Match against Iran, by the Football governing body, The Fédération Internationale de Football Association, FIFA.
According to FIFA, Mikel made
94 passes and had only one shot during the encounter. His pass record is the best among other winners of the Man of the Match in the tournament so far; Neymar won with 49 passes, 2 goals and 4 shots against Croatia;Dos Santo won with 36 passes and 1 shot against Cameroon; Van Persie won with 26 passes, 2 goals and 4 shots against Spain and Yaya Toure won with 53 passes and 2 shots against Japan, among other notable winners.
The awards sponsored by Budweiser is to reward individual excellence in each game and voting is done by football watchers via the social mediaand FIFA website.
Fans are able to vote on Twitter at the start of the second half of each game, by clicking on a picture of their chosen player and register their vote via the hashtag ManoftheMatch.
FIFA’s marketing director Thierry Weil says the process gives fans “the opportunity to be part of the sport they love.”
Voting is available in six languages — English, Spanish, Portuguese, French, German and Arabic.
