An eye witness told our reporters that the building collapsed at about few minutes passed 4 O'clock in the evening while construction was on going, "I just heard a loud crumbling sound....Gboah like it was an earthquake and people where running away from the site while others were screaming and crying and calling for help".
Another eye witness who recounted her ordeal said to our News men that "I was just opposite the building receiving a phone call when I heard a sound like thunder, coming from the Local Government Secretariat and people were
running and shouting", When asked if they were casualties, she continued "Off course they were, over 50 persons were working in the building, some mixing cements and others carrying it and laying the blocks on the fourth floor, about 10 people have died and more than 50 people have been trapped under and the authorities have been trying to rescue them, although I haven't seen anyone brought out alive"
Meanwhile, emergency respond teams were already seen at the scene, barricading it from the public as tractors and bulldozers were sighted lifting concretes and trying to create spaces for rescuers to go underneath.
An eye witness rushed in to inform our reporters that a man had been rescued alive while several others still remain trapped.
All efforts to speak with the Iru/Victoria Island Local Council Development Area officials proved abortive, as our reporters were prevented from taking photographs of the crashed building or interviewing any of the authorities.
Meanwhile an anonymous source who didn't want his identity mentioned, made a shocking disclosure to our reporters. "The foundation of the building is not strong enough and cheap building materials were used to construct this building, How can you erect three structures in a period of one year using the same contractors all because election is around the corner?" The source said,"Corruption is responsible for this crash and the Council Authorities are downplaying the magnitude of this crash, I watched Channels and other private media organisations report this collapse in the news and they said that only 3 people are dead, and 10 trapped, but it's not true, I work and live here, and the people working on this project were over 50 and as the building collapsed they were trapped alongside those around the building.
I think the media organisations reporting this crash have been bought off to make it look like it is a small incident, this is a very big incident, I can bet you that over 50 persons have lost their lives as this building collapsed, I even saw police officers and military stopping NTA people from reporting this story" The Source revealed.
People were seen assisting the emergency response team trying to lift off the concretes as others look sorrowfully in shock and awe.
