Uyi Igbe, Speaker, Edo State House of Assembly
The battle for supremacy in Edo House of Assembly entered its third day on Wednesday, June 11 as the lawmakers exchanged blows in public. There was a free for all fight in the assembly chambers between APC and PDP assemblymen which resulted in
the smashing of some glass doors in the complex.
According to report, the commotion started when nine members of the house who belong to the People Democratic Party, PDP, led by the suspended Deputy Speaker, Festus Ebea, enter the hallowed chamber for the day’s proceedings.
The 15 APC lawmakers led by the Speaker, Uyi Igbe, also came into the chamber and this resulted in a fight between both parties as they openly exchanged blows.
The Commissioner of Police, Mr. Foluso Adebanjo was said to have intervened immediately as he calmed the feuding parties and met with them at a closed door session in the hallow chamber.
Normalcy was later restored and security beefed up around the assembly complex.
Sniffer dog, Armoured Personnel Carrier and police vans were stationed around the complex while major roads leading to the Edo assembly was cordoned off.
It could be recalled that the Edo state governor, Adams Oshiomhole had disclosed last week that some lawmakers in the assembly had received some huge money from Abuja to ensure the removal of the speaker and his impeachment.
There were reports this week which suggested that some PDP members had suspended the Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Uyi Igbe.
