City of David United coach, Austin Eguavoen has blamed his team’s ouster from the Federation Cup competition on players' inexperience.
The Lagos-based Pro Division 1 side were sent home from the tournament after a 4-0 defeat by Nasarawa United in Ilorin.
“It was quite unfortunate, but it wasn’t such terrible performance. Inexperience played a major role in the defeat. We didn’t concede any goal in the first half,” Eguavoen told the News Agency of Nigeria on Sunday.
“We committed a blunder and they scored. The spectators and the opposing team applauded my players, despite the scoreline. We gave a good account of ourselves.”
The former Super Eagles coach commended the officiating and security at the match venue. The ex-Eagles captain said, “I think, in terms of security, it was very good: officiating was fair enough.”
“I stayed back to watch the second match between Warri Wolves and Sportlight. I give kudos to the officials; they gave a good account of themselves.”
