Car Washer Jailed For Beating His Wife


An Abuja Grade 1 Area Court in Kado on Friday sentenced a car wash operator, Dominic Dauda, 28, to five months in prison for beating his wifeDauda was convicted on a two-count charge of criminal force and assault.
The Presiding Judge, Alhaji Ahmed Ado, however, gave the convict an option to pay N2,500 fine after he pleaded guilty.
Earlier the prosecutor, Sgt. Simon Ibrahim, told the court that while the convict’s wife was asleep, he entered the room and dragged her out and beat her “for no just reason.”
Ibrahim said that the convict beat up his wife because he wanted her to leave the room so he would spend the night with his girlfriend.
According to the prosecutor, Dauda also assaulted his wife while they were waiting to give their statements at the police station.
He said that Mrs Rahab Dominic of Jabi Car Wash reported the matter at the Utako Police Station on Feb. 4.
The prosecutor had prayed the court to summarily sentence Dauda under Section 157 (1) of the Criminal Procedure Code after he pleaded guilty.
He said that the offence contravened the provision of Sections 244 and 266 of the Penal Code.
